A BIG Step Forward - and the People Behind it

It’s been a fast-paced July at Dotplot, and we can’t wait to bring you up to speed on what’s new — from awards to welcoming new clinical advisors and connecting with all of you!

🎉 We’re a Women TechEU Grant Winner!

We’re proud to announce that Dotplot has been selected from over 1,000 applicants as one of this year’s Women TechEU grant recipients, funded by the European Union!

One reason this grant means so much to us is that building a MedTech business hasn’t always been the smoothest journey.

As founders who come from non-medical design backgrounds, we often feel like “creative misfits” doing this kind of work (more on that below), so it’s an honour to be recognised in such a competitive and regulated industry!

🩺 Strengthening Clinical Advocacy

Over the past few months, we’ve worked hard to assemble a diverse clinical advisory board whose members bring both expertise in their fields and the shared belief in making early detection more accessible and empowering.

On that note, it’s a pleasure to introduce Professor Jeff Bamber, Head of the Ultrasound and Optics Group at the The Institute of Cancer Research, London, and Mr. Stephen Ebbs, Former Consultant Breast Surgeon, and Medical Director at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, as two of our Clinical Advisors!

We took a moment to ask what excites them most about Dotplot — here’s what had to say 👇

Prof. Bamber:

"I have taken a keen personal interest because breast cancer affects millions of women, and early detection is key to its successful treatment. Even in areas of the world with good access to screening, many breast cancers are diagnosed after they have been found by women themselves. The Dotplot concept could provide monthly ultrasound breast monitoring, empowering women of all ages everywhere with a smart tool to increase their confidence in performing self-examinations, and improving early detection and overall survival rates."

Mr. Ebbs:

Dotplot's ability to provide rapid reassurance or diagnosis directly to the patient offers a new way forward that I am excited to be a part of. I believe that this model has huge potential benefits for all, not just in the diagnosis of breast problems, but also across a wide range of health issues.

🎤 Events

ON Helix by One Nucleus

The event brought together over 250 leaders in biotech, pharma, and research to explore the latest trends in life sciences innovation.

Debra took part in a panel with other founders to discuss translating research from the lab to real-world impact. Shefali spoke about what it’s been like coming from a creative background to co-found a MedTech startup, sharing how that perspective has brought both challenges and unique opportunities to Dotplot’s development.

Cancer Research Horizons’ Innovation & Entrepreneurship Awards

It was a privilege to present the New Startup of the Year Award at this year’s ceremony after receiving it ourselves last year. Congratulations to the 2025 winner, Trogenix, for their incredible work!

💭 Closing Thoughts
If there’s one thread amongst everything we’ve shared, it’s that research keeps us moving forward — whether that’s through refining our product, rethinking what already exists, or testing better ways of getting care to people who need it.

Either way, it’s what helps us all get closer to better breast health!

That’s all for this month. See you in the next one 😉
